Great product

by Patrick from Culver, Indiana on 2010-07-30
For 379-this projector delivers a great picture and has been a lot of fun. I have used my HD 50 inch screen and also put it outside with just a white sheet for a "drive-in" night. The 30,000 hr bulb is an added plus-if you are looking for a projector with a fantastic picture at a low price-this is the one. Very light and easy to hook-up to any dvd player and speaker system.

BIG SCREEN XBOX 360 ON THE CHEAP

by David A. Swoboda from on 2010-07-26
Folks, I have never written a review on Amazon before, but felt I really owed it to you all for this particular item. In a word, the ViewSonic PJD5122 is awesome! I've always been a fan of ViewSonic, since the early days when they made what were considered to be the best value CRT monitors for the price. This unit is no different. Most importantly, the thing that had me waffling about buying this projector, over a truly HD model for twice the price, was whether or not it would project the Xbox 360 output in 16:9. This is important as we are also using the Xbox as a DVD movie player. Well, the projector DOES output in 16:9! This is the way we watch movies at my sisters house and I barely miss going to the theater. That was my sticking point and I wasn't sure about this until we got it and powered it up. Now, because I am a nice guy, all of you know this. Special Note: YOU WILL NEED THE XBOX 360 (S)VGA OUTPUT CABLES... they run about $40 and I would spring for the official Microsoft ones as people were having trouble with off brands, according to my research. Now, a caveat: Some of you want 1080p. If you have a blue-ray player, or you expect to see the texture in Halo Master Chief's gloves, well, this isn't for you. I didn't care about 1080p. I am not going to start buying Blue-Ray just yet, so I am not really unhappy using anything more than 720p HD. This is not only good enough for me, it is BETTER than good enough. If you want a big screen gaming experience on a tight budget... then HOLY COW does this thing deliver. It is bright, crisp and the colors are gorgeous, even in a well lit room! I game during the day sometimes and it is nice not to have to blacken out the windows with spray paint. :)I bought one of these about six months ago as a gift that I also would use when staying at a relatives house. They use it for movies, I use it to game when everyone goes to sleep. We even built our own screen using "Parkland Plastics Polywall". We love that set up. Anyway, I am SO HAPPY with the output of the Xbox 360 on this projector that I am going to now purchase ANOTHER ONE for my own home theater / gaming room.Buy with confidence, people. This is among the best purchases I have ever made for home entertainment and I saved a TON.

Decent projector with a major flaw

by Kenneth Allen Hixson from on 2010-07-22
The picture on this unit was pretty good especially considering the price. The reason I give it a bad review is because the unit kept searching for a signal when I was in the middle of watching a movie or playing a game. At one point it would stop, go to the start screen and search, then resume every minute or 2. I called Viewsonic support and they were no help. I have already returned the item and am going to be ordering a different model.

Good home theatre

by Mohan from on 2010-07-11
I bought this projector, since I wanted to have a movie theatre experience. It is a damn good choice. Brightness is good, picture quality is good. But only thing is it supports only 800 x 600 resolution. Rest, we have watched 3 movies in a single day, but the lamp has not got heated up, it was just warm, not hot. It is a good value for money.Good: Good quality picture even in bright lit room 2500 Lumens - brighter bulbs Easy to use No noiseNeed to improve: Supports just 800 x 600 resolution power cable length is shorterOverall, I can say, for a home, this is a very good choice.

Great Projector, 1 small problem

by schenker from on 2010-08-24
Great product! Owned this for 2 days now and love it! Got my Xbox 360, Wii, and computer all hooked up to this baby and am not looking back. There is definatly a downside which I have mostly remedied, however, most people will not be able to. The thing is that this projector has NO AUDIO OUTPUT. Which is weird considering it has HDMI and such. This means if you connect something with the HDMI, you are stuck using the build in speaker for audio. Bummer. Also, if you connect using the y/r/w cables you are also stuck using the internal speaker, but if you have a stereo like I do, connect it to the stereo and run it to the projector. Not that the internal speaker sounds bad, it actually sounds great, but it's just not the best while watching home movies or gaming.Great picture quality and projects and image of about 5 1/2' x 7'. Actually is slightly bigger, but roughly that size. I'm very happy with my projector.

Vivitek?

by P. Hsu from Yorba Linda, CA USA on 2010-08-10
I was curious about the Vivitek brand since it's a fairly new name, at least to me. Last time I researched for projectors was probably back in 2002~2003 when the popular Infocus X1 first came out. Turns out the transformer manufacturing giant, Delta Electronic is actually behind the Vivitek brand. Delta(based in Taiwan) supplies excellent power transforms for major computer OEMs such as Apple, Dell, HP and Xbox. So there's a good chance that you are already using a Delta product right now. So there, a little background about the brand. And now you can be rest assured knowing that 3 years down the road when you need to replace that projector lamp, the company will still be around.

Beautiful Picture!!!

by Pete from on 2010-09-05
I spent a lot of time researching projectors and found the Vivitek D825MS 2600 rated highly by many reviewers (On various websites). Great price considering what I was getting compared to many other projectors. Outstanding picture qualitiy. The fan is ultra quiet and cools down quickly. Very easy to use. I would highly recommend this projector.

Nice projector

by Carol from on 2010-09-04
I bought this projector a year ago to replace one of those ancient 3 lens rbg projectors. This projector is still going strong in my home theater. While not the projector with the most features, it works very well for the price. I've been running it off the composite port for DVDs, VHS, and TV(that's the best I could do w/o running a new cable), but I'll hook up the vga when I build my new htpc, so I'll have to see how it works when I crank it up to HD (1600x1200). It is nice and quite, don't really notice it. If I could complain, I would say no optical zoom and no HDMI/component ports hold this projector back. This would make a great office projector and a budget home theater projector.

So Happy!

by JJL from Boerne, Tx United States on 2010-08-30
I took this projector right out of the box plugged it into my laptop and 'wa la' I had a big beautiful clear picture on my wall. I didn't change a single setting, and there are lots of them!

No instruction manual

by G. M. Guerin from Charleston, WV United States on 2010-08-25
I may be slow, but this is my first projector and I would appreciate an instruction manual. The buttons on the top of the machine don't seem to do anything. You need the remote to turn it on and off, etc. Otherwise, the picture quality is great, the noise is minimal when projecting (noisier when doing the final cool-down, but who cares?) and it came with both a power and a connection cord of respectable lengths. Now, if I just knew how to work all of the bells and whistles!

Great Projector and Great Value.

by Mr. Wai L. Lau from on 2010-08-16
This is the 4th Vivitek I bought within 6 months. I used them to travel to China. They are very bright, small and light enough to travel without feeling burden. Its bright, I do not need to turn off the room light to show vivid picture. Although the projector does not have zoom lens, the digital zoom is very useful to make the image to fill the screen when moving the projector is no possible. The projector even come with a laser pointer! Great deal.

Bargain buy, AWESOME picture

by Joey Wiggins from on 2010-08-30
I've been an LCD flat panel fan since they first came out, but I wanted something for a media room in my house that the previous owners finished out and was just wasting away. What better than a 92-inch screen? Found it with the Optoma HD20. Awesome picture for the price of a 50 inch 720p plasma, and this is 1080p! I am very pleased.

Dedicated home theater room projector

by LiveLaugh&Golf from on 2010-08-25
I performed a ceiling mount installation with a 13' throw which produced a 115" 16:9 screen. What can I say, it's beautiful, bright even with a fair amount of room lighting, colors are wonderful, quiet, and doesn't seem to have issues with a 25' hdmi connection. I thought hard about a mitsu or epson projector of similar image quality ratings but after reading some of the early bulb blowing stories I'm happy I went with this Optoma HD20. Best on the market for under $1500 if you ask me.

Don't buy any Optoma projectors

by OB21 from on 2010-08-24
This is the second Optoma projector I bought. The first projector was a HD72. When the projector is mounted from the ceiling the lamp becomes loose (due to heat and gravity) and the picture will go out. This is a design flaw which was supposedly fixed with the new Optoma HD20. Unfortunalety I trusted Optoma and bought the HD20. Big mistake! Only after 16 hours of use, the HD20 is doing the exact same thing as the HD72. Picture goes out after a couple of minutes. I am in the process of returning the HD20 and I just bought a Mitsubishi HC3800.

Are you kidding me? AWESOME!!!!

by -MM- from Chicago, IL on 2010-08-09
This thing is an AMAZING value.I ordered the Optoma HD20 on Wednesday night with free super saver shipping and the thing arrived on Friday morning!I popped this thing out of the box and put it on the universal projector mount that the previous owner had left on the ceiling of our house.I then hooked up the HDMI input to our HDDVR cable box and WOW! The picture quality for under $1000 is amazing! It takes a few minor adjustments to get the thing focused and if the mount isn't mounted exactly centered to your screen you will get the standard one corner higher than the other. Nothing you can do about this leveling wise, so just get it the best you can or re-center the screen or projector (depends on if being off by 1 inch on a 300 inch screen bothers you).Long story short after about an hour of messing with the mount in order to get it they way I wanted (nothing to do with the projector) I had this thing displaying AMAZING 8 foot by 5 foot 1080 HD programming. For less than a $1000 this thing blows away my 52 inch Samsung LCD (also purchased off Amazon, and I also think is a great product).I highly recommend this to anyway who has the space. HD programming and / or blu-ray is a must for this projector and sports are really great. This thing is especially good if you have a larger room where you don't feel like you are on top of the screen. Hope you have as much luck with it as I have so far. Enjoy!

great starter projector!!!

by LoreBlob from on 2010-08-07
As a total projector newbie, I did some research on reputed review sites as well as amazon and came up with the Optoma20. It works fantastically well. i do not have a receiver but i just hooked it up to a pair of computer spearks through the projector's audio output. Awesome for DVDs, extremely sharp and bright color, and that's saying something: we live in a loft apartment where it is impossible to black out the entire space, and we have a lot of light pollution at night through the loft windows via the busy street outside. It is still possible to watch movies comfortably. one day i suspect people will start putting lawn chairs outside our window and watch with us.

GREAT VALUE

by C. Lin from New York, NY USA on 2010-09-03
For the price, this is a great product to have. The product is bright, colors are vivid and most of all, the projector works with very device that is out there. PC, MAC, Blue-ray, Wii, Xbox, all are supported including high resolution 1920x1200 from my pc. Cons: There is no zoom ring so the image size is fixed. If you plan to mount, you need to know exactly where to install.

Damaged package/Reconditioned or Returned Item?

by Bobby from chicago on 2010-08-28
The projector arrived and the security seal on its box was broken. The projector box had been previously torn open. I suspect I was sent a returned or reconditioned unit which is not what I paid for. Be wary about this item.

Great for our outdoor theater

by Michelle Goodson from KANSAS CITY, MO, US on 2010-07-21
After doing extensive research and looking for a projector in our target price range, I ordered this one. We bought this projector for the purpose of having an outdoor theater and we love it! It is extremely easy to use. Having used a projector similar to this one before, it was easy to hook up and start using. We connect to a surround sound system so not having speakers in the projector was not an issue. I would have given it a 5 star rating on resolution but it does have to be pretty dark before the picture is clear enough to see. We put a concert on and watched to see when the picture was bright enough to see clearly. It doesn't have to be completely dark, but it does need to be a bit past dusk.Overall, this is a great projector and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a reasonably priced projector for fun activites. We can't wait to hook up the Wii and play outside!

Excellent in both large and small projection

by Erika Loic from on 2010-07-11
I purchased this projector for two very different purposes: 1. to project movies onto a wall for pleasure viewing, and 2. to project a small image onto paper as a means of creating hand-drawn rotoscoped animations. I've been very impressed with this projector in all lighting conditions, whether projecting large or projecting small. The image is crisp and bright. I connect to a PC for watching movies and to a Mac for my animation projects, and I've had no problems with either. In this price category, I'm fully satisfied with this product.

Sturdy, adjustable and easy to install

by G. Nair from Huntingdon Vly, PA on 2010-02-20
The shaft length is adjustable. Lots of adjustment screws to fine tune position of the projector after it has been screwed to the posts.Only gotcha is that it comes with 4 mounting legs, but only three 3" extenders. Using just the 3 that were provided, I could not mount on the four posts of my projector, even though the max distance between any two posts on my projector is 10.5 (within the specs for this kit). However, once I contacted the seller, they were quick to mail me the extra extender. All set now.

It's all it needs to be

by Eduardo Abraham from Utah on 2010-01-28
I bought this for my HD-65 and besides having to mess with arms a little bit to get it to actually fit this tiny projector I had to use just 3 of the little arms on it. Just a heads up for HD-65 owners. It works great though. It's solid sturdy and blends in with my white ceiling.. The best I've found for the price

videoSecu Univ ceiling mount

by William Krivanek from PGH PA on 2009-11-11
This did the job that was needed!! I used this mount for an Inforcus projector for our theatre room. First off, prior reviews made me suspect of buying this because they stated flimsy quality, mount, hardware, etc. I hooked this too a stud in the ceiling and it easliy held my wife a couple feet from the floor!!!!!!! The instructions could be a little bit better, but its pretty much common sense. Pitch and yaw angles are minimal, but will get the job done to make sure your have a straight picture. I even hooked this mount to an Optoma just to see if it would fit and no suprises it did with ease. If you contemplating this mount, I would say get it!! it is surely worth the cheap price and the delivery time was amazing as well!

Good little device

by Jason Anderson from Lyman, WY on 2009-11-09
Pros: This mounting bracket was very easy to install on our drop ceiling. And is also very user friendly to adjust the swivel to go up or down, left or right for an accurate screen on our wallCon: Did not have screws that fit in our Epson projector. I had to take our projector to a hardware store and make sure the screws would fit.Other than not having the supplied screws this bracket is very nice to have.

You get MORE for your money with this one!

by acid6x from mendocino county Ca. on 2009-03-09
I bought this mount after reading the reviews and was a little edgy about it because of the "one star" review i read that said it might just drop from the ceiling...Well before i hung my projector from it I ACTUALLY GRABBED ONTO IT AND HUNG WITH THE FULL 140LBS OF MY BODY WEIGHT AND IT SLIPPED ABOUT 1/4" AND THEN CAUGHT. I noticed that if you turn the sliding height adjustment bar upside down it will slip off SO MAKE SURE YOU PUT THAT BAR ON THE RIGHT WAY (try it both ways, the right one will be obvious) If you install it correctly you REALLY CANT BEAT THIS FOR THE MONEY. It is a must that you be somewhat mechanically inclined..if your unsure, have a friend on hand for second opinions and to help you hold everything steady. Once its up its easy to make adjustments and it looks sweet!

Near Perfect Universal Mount

by SN Star from Washington DC on 2010-07-26
This was my first every Projector installation and i chose this over numerous others because this mount seemed to have multiple axis caliberation options and i was right. The mount itself is nice and compact - good quality and very sturdy. I mounted Optoma HD20 - It took me a few mins to figure out how to align the base clamps to fit the 3 mounting holes under HD20 (Had to reverse one of the inner clamps) and it fit perfect. I think in the earlier reviews, where ever the reviewers have mentioned that assembly was required or it did not fit the projector right out of the box - well - its a universal mount, and YOU have to figure out how best to utilize it.All the bolts/hardware needed for my installation care right out of the box. After aligning and tightening the screws, there is no projector shift or movement. I rate this product 5 stars.

Disappointed

by Bobby J. Truong from Philadelphia, PA on 2010-07-26
You really get what you paid for. I bought this ceiling projector mount after reading several positive reviews. I have an Epson 8100. The directions were not too clear on assembling this together but after sitting there and staring at the non descriptive diagram you somehow begin to piece everything together. But the materials use for this mount are very cheap and poorly manufacturered. Would you believe that 2 of the 3 mounting long screws broke while I was fastening the mount to the wood on my unfinished basement. I therefore had to go to Home Depot and get replacement fastening screws. After this incident it makes me leary about the 3 little screws holding basically my entire projector on 3 legs.

Cheap and works, but man it's a pain to get installed right.

The unit is well built, and overall I am satisfied now that it is installed. However, mounting my projector (Optoma HD66) to this was both frustrating and took numerous tries to get it right.

For lightweight projectors.

by Anonymous from on 2010-07-21
I put a 15+ pound projector on this and adjusting it was extremely difficult. It took well over a half hour of adjusting and readjusting. The metal is very thin and if you play with the bolts too much the threads will strip and it will no longer stay solid (assuming you could ever call it solid with a heavy projector on it, as thin as it is).I'm sure this would be fine for a projector in the neighborhood of 5 lbs, but if you are putting something big and heavy on, go for a tougher mount!Funny, I swear I reviewed this before but I can't find my review in the list. I guess I had not clicked submit.

Not truly universal but solid

On my Chrisie Projecter i could only fit 3 of the 4 mounting arms to it. but other than the mounting arms being slightly to short, the mount is well designed

Great Projector

by Zane from Maryland on 2010-09-06
We finally decided to upgrade our projector and purchased this one from Amazon.com. We look the clarity of the picture and you do not even have to invest in expensive cables to connect it, unless you just want to. We used a basic red, white, yellow cable and it is phenomenal.

Great projector for home theater

by K. Kirkland from on 2010-08-03
Me an a buddy both bought one of these projectors, so I have seen two in use in two different environments. I have mine in a basement that allows me to control the lighting where his is in his living room that has a lot of ambient light during the day. The projector exceeds expectations in the dark and is above average in the daytime. It still is a projector so direct light will kill the picture. The fan can be heard, but once the move/game/tv is playing you will not notice. I also painted my wall instead of buying a screen. I would suggest a gray color not white for this projector. Behr silverscreen is a good choice. Something like an eggshell. It really helped the colors pop.Lastly, Amazon is promoting this as a 120hz, it is not the same as a 120hz tv. 120hz is only available through vga cable and at a certain resolution. Don't expect the 120z while using a blu-ray. I didn't take off a star because the manufacturer doesn't advertise it as a feature, just amazon.

Not What you may think

by DP from on 2010-07-13
if you are looking to hook this up to your blue-ray 3D Player of Playstation for 3D gaming- think again. This is not set up fpr any of the above. It only works via your computer and it requires Nvida 3D package. If you are looking for the same thing I am then do not waste your time with this machine.

a great projector for business presentation, not excellent for home theater

by MDguy from on 2010-07-03
The projector is flawless for business presentation, class room, but not excellent for home theater. The brightness is super, the sound is great, and the images from computers were awesome, however, while used for playing movies, only very high quality DVDs produce great pictures. Most of our VCDs, DVDs just gave poor images. Digital TV is OK, but color is not very vivid and not natural. We had wished to buy this projector to substitute a plasma/digital TV, but this projector is not there yet. If you want to buy one for presentation, you will not regret for buying it, for home entertainment, you might have to seek other options, such as those 1080p projectors.

Simply Blown Away!!!

by 180onthewall from ottawa on canada on 2010-06-29
Let me start off by saying that when i buy something i study it hard before i buy it to make sure that i make the right descion, i settle on the viewsonic pjd6531w, and am i ever happy i did!! right out of the box the picture looked awsome!! and i received it in the morning at work so when i got home for lunch the first thing i did was set it up, even on a beige wall the picture was sharp! when i got home i put it in the spare room on a white wall , setup the surround system and popped in a bluray into the ps3, and i was blown away!!!! the colors, the sharpness, and the jaw dropping size of the screen was simply breath taking! i seriously had to do nothing , not one adjustment but to the keystone due to angle on bookshelf, if you are looking for a projector you will not be dissapointed with this one! oh and the 3d is great too!! i feel like i can jump into the screen!
