Viewsonic makes a great projector. The ease of maneuvering through the menu made it very easy for a ceiling set up. Plenty of lumens in this projector, as well.

Great small, light weight projector

by Nathan Beauchamp from Oak Park, IL USA on 2009-02-26
The IN24 projector is great for many reasons. It is light weight, high quality with very clear projected images, is easy to use, and generally low costs considering the replacement bulbs are fairly reasonable. Our projector has been going strong for over two years and we are just now replacing the bulb for the first time. This is a VGA in, so if your laptop has a DVI out, make sure you have a converter. All of the functions of the projector are easily accessed from the controls on the top. Focusing is easy with both a manual and automatic focus option. Connectivity options include S-video, analog video in, and VGA. There is also a VGA out for a monitor attachment, although I've never used that feature.Overall this projector has performed quite well, and I can easily recommend it to anyone looking for a lightweight projector that won't break the bank.

great for the classroom

by SJ 280 from San Jose, CA United States on 2008-11-16
I purchased this projector for my classroom and LOVE it. It has totally changed the way I teach. My school has since purchased me a projector like this one and one for each teacher in the entire building!! I totally cannot imagine teaching without one of these things ever again! It is wonderful!

Small inconveniences

by Steven E. Anderson from Los Angeles on 2008-04-07
Concise and easy to set up. Worked really well right out of the box. High quality projector. Found the focus to be a bit short of crystal clear when looking at a Word document. At 15 feet I'm well within range. However, it was certainly readable when I increased the size of the text. Such inconvenience easily ignored with overall benefit. Bright and easy to read in well lit conference room with 30 people.

Great Value

by W1Dancer from MA, United States on 2008-01-18
After researching so many projectors that I thought my head was going to explode I came upon this one. It seemed to fit my needs since I travel and do a number of presentations. It has a high resolution that projects well from across a room. If you ever have to replace a bulb (I haven't yet) but these were a lot more affordable than most other brands. My only wish was that it would come with a travel case. The cases were out of stock so I have to wait 2 months to get the one that fits this. Still the projector is great.

Projectors based on DLP technology are fully compatible with digital signals--with no analog conversion necessary--making them compatible with everything from digital cameras to gaming consoles. The Digital Micromirror Device that forms the heart of DLP technology is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, giving DLP the advantage of being extremely portable for a wide range of uses. Features an intuitive keypad on the top of the project for easy navigation. View larger. Connection panel is located at the rear of the unit. A detailed rear view or view larger. The X2 provides a stunning 2000:1 contrast ration that offers superb imaging for home video or gaming. The projector's ANSI lumen output is rated at 1600 at full-power and 1100 in low-lamp--and, therefore, lower fan noise--mode. The projector's 200-watt lamp fills your screen brilliantly with 1700 lumens, and in low-power mode it will give you an amazing 3,000 hours of use. The X2 features a maximum projection of 32.3 feet, with at least five feet needed on the lower end. The projector's zoom lens means that images will fit the screen perfectly from wherever the projector is located. Unlike many other digital projectors that practically require a technical degree to operate them, the InFocus X2 is designed for easy connectivity and use. The connection panel is located conveniently at the rear of the unit. Inputs include one M1-DA port that takes computer RGB, DVI, and HDTV; one S-video port; and one composite video jack. In addition there is one set of stereo RCA audio inputs. The connections are color-coded, making a laptop, PDA, DVD, cable or satellite TV system, digital camera, or game console connection as easy as it gets, no matter where you are. Convenient, Easy-to-Use Features The InFocus interface features intuitive keypads, remote controls, and user-friendly menus that deliver one-touch operation. The projector is compatible with DVI, HDTV 1080i, 720p, 480p, and computer resolutions up to XGA (1024x768). With it, you can project NTSC, PAL, or SECAM standard videos from the rear or front. And with a built-in 2.5 watt speaker, you won't need to drag extra speakers with you for you presentations. Great except for short life of bulbs

by David Norton from Mesa, AZ on 2007-12-06
I bought my X2 in June of 2004. It has a good picture, and I like the projector for ease of use. However, after 1.5 years, and 700 hours, the bulb blew. I was disappointed, but figured the bulb blowing less than half its estimated life was just bad luck. I paid $300 and got a new bulb. It just blew on me after less than 500 hours. For the price they charge, they need to stand behind their bulbs! A 90 warranty? Are you kidding me!? If they can't give their customers more than 90 days on a $300 bulb, they should lose their customers. I will never buy Infocus again! Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, I never move my projector around or miss treat it. I also always let the fan run for hours after I use the projector to make sure the bulb is cooled completely.

Infocus X2

by Hi Ya'll from on 2007-08-01
As a K-12 librarian in Menasha, WI, I need to make presentations to classes. In Sept 2005 I bought a brand new Infocus X2. It did a fantastic job. Two months later the school got two projectors so I brought mine home to use as a home theater. For a year my family watched television and movies on the big screen and it was great. When the bulb went out, the cost of replacement lamps sent me into shock. $300 for a bulb? I decided to purchase a 42 inch flat screen TV instead. The projector sits as a possible back-up, if I ever buy a bulb.

Good picture for the price, short life span, bad customer service

by L. Shawn Kirchdorfer from Arlington, TX USA on 2007-07-18
I too have an X2 for the past 2 years and have now started seeing a verticle shadow on the right side of the screen, as well as the bearings making the "buzz-saw" sound until it heats up. I'm glad I saw this review since I have not been able to find any information about this shadow issue. I had no idea it was due to parts being glued in the hottest part of the device! Yikes! It gets great picture and has been a really good projector for our home theater until this issue. I won't buy another Infocus item because of the service issues and the BBB rating of the company. But it was a great intro home theater projector for the price at the time. Saved us 2 years worth of movie tickets at least. Steer clear of this brand if you want to get more than 2 years of average use out of it.

Good picture, short bulb life

by Jonathan Rich, Ph.D. from Irvine, CA United States on 2007-06-23
This projector provides a good, bright, clear picture. But I've had two bulbs blow out after only about 300-400 hours each. That's about $1 an hour! For this reason, I wouldn't recommend it.

Amazing Projectro!

by Aelia Yousaf from Mississauga, Canada on 2007-06-21
I have the X2 for about 2 years now, and it was an excellent idea to purchase this projector. For the past two years i was using the composite connection to display DVD, until yesterday - when i purchased the M1 to component cable adaptor (thanks to tigerdirect.ca). let me tell you it was a night and day difference! I couldent believe the picture quality. The whites were brighter blacks darker, and color was beautiful! So make sure you invest in the M1 to component adaptor(SP-M1-ADPT). My only wish item for this projector is the 4:3 native resolution - wish it was a 16:9 native resolution. The other thing is the fan. Its a bit loud, but after a while my surround sound covers that up. Other than that amazing projector for the price!

big bang for small buck

by Jason H from duluth, mn USA on 2009-10-26

Amazing Projector, Best Price

by Chas from Jersey Shore on 2009-05-30
I'm a math teacher. I use this projector in my classroom every day, for about 3-4 hours per day. It has withstood classroom use for (so far) one month with absolutely no problems. I keep the projector about 15 feet from the screen (i use a bedsheet nailed above the blackboard so i can have a larger screen that everyone can see easily without having to duck or try to look over other students' heads). At this distance the screen is very large and even 12 point font can be easily read from the back of the room.I'm sure you know how bright a classroom tends to be. I can keep all my lights on and the students can still see everything. I usally turn off half the lights, though, which greatly improves picture quality. The only drawback is the lack of a zoom. I have to keep the projector in the middle of the classroom to get the desired screen size. I had to buy long cables to run to the middle of the room, and tape everything down, which is a bit of an eyesore if you're a purist (which i'm not). Annoying, but i found a way to make it work for my set-up, so i'm sure you can find a way to make it work for you. That said, this was the best priced projector on Amazon, and so far i haven't noticed my projector once in the classroom (which, by the way, is a good thing. i shouldn't ever be thinking about the projector while i'm teaching).Update: It is now the end of March 2010, and after 10 months of daily use...IT STILL WORKS! I've had it on for nearly 5 hours a day every day during this school year, and still no problems. Great value!

Fabulous Projector For This Pricepoint!

by Michelle Carver from on 2008-11-26
I am a Cub Scout leader and I borrowed this from our pack for a sleepover for my boys and the color and clarity were amazing! I was in a huge room (about 30' x 30') and we sat it back about 20'-25' projecting it onto a wall with the "screen size" being about 15'-18' wide and the image was bright and sharp, I was amazed. The kids felt like they were in a movie theater. I'm definitely going to buy the newer version for personal use. Before the sun went down we did watch a few educational DVDs in a very brightly sunlit room and it was still bright and clear considering the brightness of the room. I'm for sure buying one.

High Quality in cheap price

by Ritesh Gupta from Bellevue,WA on 2008-08-01
I purchased it with $100 MIR, and this has been my first projector, but I have seen movies on my friend's projector which are costlier then this but poor in picture quality then this one. It has sharp brightness and I can see movies even when room lights are ON. It comes with remote with many good features like Lamp hour usage, blank screen, preset picture modes and many options to customize it. So far no problem and have used for 100 hrs...happy movie watching!!

Projector

by Charles Moser from Ukiah, CA on 2008-06-07
I know it will give me good service. The only problem it has is the projected image is a little askew. It is just for the work I do and I will just live with it. The lumins are great! There is no need to turn off lights in the room to get real bright readings.
