Bargain buy, AWESOME picture

by Joey Wiggins from on 2010-08-30
I've been an LCD flat panel fan since they first came out, but I wanted something for a media room in my house that the previous owners finished out and was just wasting away. What better than a 92-inch screen? Found it with the Optoma HD20. Awesome picture for the price of a 50 inch 720p plasma, and this is 1080p! I am very pleased.

Dedicated home theater room projector

by LiveLaugh&Golf from on 2010-08-25
I performed a ceiling mount installation with a 13' throw which produced a 115" 16:9 screen. What can I say, it's beautiful, bright even with a fair amount of room lighting, colors are wonderful, quiet, and doesn't seem to have issues with a 25' hdmi connection. I thought hard about a mitsu or epson projector of similar image quality ratings but after reading some of the early bulb blowing stories I'm happy I went with this Optoma HD20. Best on the market for under $1500 if you ask me.

Don't buy any Optoma projectors

by OB21 from on 2010-08-24
This is the second Optoma projector I bought. The first projector was a HD72. When the projector is mounted from the ceiling the lamp becomes loose (due to heat and gravity) and the picture will go out. This is a design flaw which was supposedly fixed with the new Optoma HD20. Unfortunalety I trusted Optoma and bought the HD20. Big mistake! Only after 16 hours of use, the HD20 is doing the exact same thing as the HD72. Picture goes out after a couple of minutes. I am in the process of returning the HD20 and I just bought a Mitsubishi HC3800.

Are you kidding me? AWESOME!!!!

by -MM- from Chicago, IL on 2010-08-09
This thing is an AMAZING value.I ordered the Optoma HD20 on Wednesday night with free super saver shipping and the thing arrived on Friday morning!I popped this thing out of the box and put it on the universal projector mount that the previous owner had left on the ceiling of our house.I then hooked up the HDMI input to our HDDVR cable box and WOW! The picture quality for under $1000 is amazing! It takes a few minor adjustments to get the thing focused and if the mount isn't mounted exactly centered to your screen you will get the standard one corner higher than the other. Nothing you can do about this leveling wise, so just get it the best you can or re-center the screen or projector (depends on if being off by 1 inch on a 300 inch screen bothers you).Long story short after about an hour of messing with the mount in order to get it they way I wanted (nothing to do with the projector) I had this thing displaying AMAZING 8 foot by 5 foot 1080 HD programming. For less than a $1000 this thing blows away my 52 inch Samsung LCD (also purchased off Amazon, and I also think is a great product).I highly recommend this to anyway who has the space. HD programming and / or blu-ray is a must for this projector and sports are really great. This thing is especially good if you have a larger room where you don't feel like you are on top of the screen. Hope you have as much luck with it as I have so far. Enjoy!

great starter projector!!!

by LoreBlob from on 2010-08-07
As a total projector newbie, I did some research on reputed review sites as well as amazon and came up with the Optoma20. It works fantastically well. i do not have a receiver but i just hooked it up to a pair of computer spearks through the projector's audio output. Awesome for DVDs, extremely sharp and bright color, and that's saying something: we live in a loft apartment where it is impossible to black out the entire space, and we have a lot of light pollution at night through the loft windows via the busy street outside. It is still possible to watch movies comfortably. one day i suspect people will start putting lawn chairs outside our window and watch with us.

Not bad for the price

by Greg C from Hubbardston, MA USA on 2009-12-28
It took about 2-1/2 hours to assemble this screen. The packaging was fine. Some of the hardware was different from the instructions, and some was mis-matched.The frame went together fine and seems relatively sturdy. Some of the screw holes didn't quite line up.The instructions don't really say how tight the screen should be and could be A LOT better. The screen itself is decent. I'm not a videophile but the image is a lot nicer than the big roll of paper we had been using. With the velvety finish it looks like a much more expensive item. All in all I could probably make a do-it-yourself kit for a few bucks cheaper but this isn't bad for $160.

Great buy

by Arellano from Arlington, TX, US on 2010-05-29
Easy to install: I used two white metal chain links (about 1 1/2" long heavy links) on each side, passing through the mounting holes. Then I used two white ceiling hooks, placed at the proper diatance, one for each side. I bought them at Lowe's and they were specially easy to use, as you do not have to drill any holes or look for studs, just screw them into the ceiling plaster and they anchor themselves and support up to 60 lbs each. Next I hanged the two chain links to the hook on each side and the work was done). It took me several hours to think about this way of doing it, but only 10 minutes to install it. The screen is great and functions well. I have and Epson 8500 UB and it is picture perfect.

Wow

by J. Ludlow from Fort Worth, TX USA on 2010-03-07
My buddy who builds theater rooms says rule number one is spend big on screen and center channel speaker, cut corners in other places. I ordered this screen thinking it would be a starter to hold me over til I could afford a high dollar screen. I really cannot believe the picture. It is as good as my Sony Grand Wega 60 inch without a doubt. Very bright picture in my theater room and still a great picture with the lighting on dim. Surprised I am this happy with a screen this inexpensive.

EXCELLENT!

by Lg from on 2010-03-04
Ok I'm going to start by saying I don't write reviews often but i had to let everyone know how great it really is. I always wanted an electric but I couldn't bring myself to spend $800-900 on one when my fixed screen (which I had to put up and take out every time to watch a movie) worked just fine. But just for fun i looked on amazon and found this one for $198 DELIVERED! they had to send a big Diesel truck to my front door. Now onto the screen it self, setup couldn't be easier I personally rewired the control so it was recessed into the wall with no wires showing. Its super easy to get adjusted to stop right where its supposed to. And the material is very nice my movies actually look clearer than ive ever seen for a SD home projector. Why spend more! And yes i would recommend this to a friend and actually have.

Good Project Screen!

by takeshi_goto from VA on 2010-02-12
The delivery time was excellent. It came on the exact day as promised. I have installed the screen on my ceiling, and so far it works great. I have had it for about 1 month. I would recommend this screen for any one looking for a cheap way to watch movies at home.

Projector Screen Review

by Joseph W. Amaradio from Las Vegas, NV on 2009-06-08
A few months back we recently purchased a couple Favi electric projector screens online. Honestly never heard of them but we decided to give it a shot because of their money back guarantee...We were really impressed with how the screen performed. I have used all different screen companies for our systems but the motor in the favi's def runs the smoothest of any we ever installed.Setup: Straight forward instructions. What we really liked was the built-in mounting brackets for both wall and ceiling mounting. Made life a little bit easier allowing for a quick ceiling or wall installation depending on the customer requirement.Operation: Pretty standard for this type of electric screen with up/down/stop buttons on the main controller and each of the remotes. Pleased it came with both an Infrared Remote (allows you to program to a universal remote) and a RF Remote (goes through walls, allows you to keep the main controller box out of site)Motor: Smooth/QuietTension: Obviously not a tension screen but motor and a slightly weighted bottom bar perform very nicely together. We all agreed with Favi's assertion that there is no reason to spend extra money on a tension screen.Material: Gain seemed on par or slightly better than the Elite VMAX and Da-Lite we typically useIR and RF Remote Operation: Standard, no complaints. Really nice it included 2 remote controls.Warranty: Typical 1 year warrantyOverall Value: ExcellentComing from an Audio/Video systems integrator, I highly recommend the favi for anyone looking to purchase an electric projector screen.

You get what you pay for

by R. Niepieklo from New Jersey on 2010-08-10
I've never heard of this brand before but the price and the previous review made it seem not that bad.Upon receiving it, I opened the box to find all the screws loose inside. I didn't think much of it but there are over two big handfuls of screws as you start picking them all out. Assembling the screen was a nightmare! I love assembling items and I'm very handy but this was just poorly designed. These metal clips slide into the rails in the back of the screen but the rails are either uneven or the clips are slightly bent and you had to force them in. I cut up my fingers because everything is so sharp. After inserting the clips there is a hole for a screw you put through and at the end of the screw you screw in a metal hook. You end up with about 34 of these things.Next you slide the METAL rods into the edges of the screen material. The rods were COMPLETELY rusted and FILTHY. I had to be careful not to get the screen dirty (although that didn't do much for my carpet - thankfully it came out)You then put start hooking in the rods to the screen. I then noticed that the slits that the rods were slid into are moving. The glue started pealing off and before you know it the rod just popped out and that's it. You're done.I was extremely frustrated because after all the cuts and 2+ hours of putting this thing together it starts pealing in the corner. By the time it was all done it was ruined completely. The directions were horrible, don't waste your time on this and buy something of a better brand like Elite. That one took only 20 minutes to put together and its beautiful.

Didn't know what to expect

by Gymane Moody from on 2010-06-15
I recently replaced my manual pull down Accuscreen with the Favi fixed. On first inspection during installation I noticed a separating of the pleat where one of the rods go to help support the tension of the screen. Truthfully I nearly sent the screen back because of this!I figured since it was here, I might as well give it a try and see if the Favi was worth saving. Well I'm happy to report the screen turned out to work well with my projector. I wasn't expecting the gain this screen has. I know it says 6 gain, but I find that a little unrealistic, maybe a lot unrealistic! lolIt does have a tremendous amount of gain though. My Accuscreen was 1.1, this has to be at least 2.0 or more..I'm guessing. Brightness as well as my contrast and colors had to be adjusted on the projector because the screen does have plenty of gain. The viewing angle is excellent for a screen with this much gain. The claims of 175 degrees off axis seem true to my eyes.Up until I began searching for an inexpensive fixed screen, I had never heard of this company. After contacting Favi, I was pleasantly surprised with how great their customer service was. They sent me a replacement screen ASAP without question. For the money this is a very nice unit. The frame will last forever! If you want to use your favorite screen material in place of the standard screen, this could be a very good way to go. You may find that you are happy with the results of the standard screen and not worry about changing the material to something else.

I was worried about my purchase but overall I have no regrets. I had a professional put it together for me during my home theater setup so I am not sure if it would have been easy for me (being quite handy). We have been enjoying lot of movies on this screen and have had it for about 1.5years now it has been doing well so far.
