For the price a good buy

by P. VEASEY from on 2010-07-20
We use it for backyard movies. Works great. The bulb went out after about 2 hrs use and Espon was very quick to replace it. This not top of the line. Great for what we use it for.

works great!

by James A. Pierce from livingston, mt on 2010-03-11
This thing works great so far! It does not require much space to throw a huge image on the wall. We use it to work with text, and it is very clear. Highly recommend.

Not quiet, but solid device.

by P. Richter from RF, WI on 2010-02-27
This projector works great; easy set up, clear picture, simple controls, and even easy keystone adjustment. The one thing I didn't expect was to hear it. If you're getting it for powerpoint presentations, it may be a little loud. I use it for videos so the volume of the video overpowers the projector, but I was disappointed because I do also use it in a small classroom setting where it would be nice if I couldn't hear it. I don't know Dbs, but it's louder than I had hoped. The Decibals weren't listed in the specs. That would've been nice.

Nice product from Epson

by Harsha Tadiparthi from Tennessee on 2010-08-14
Its been a week I brought this product. Initially, I was a little skeptical on how good the product will perform due to the fact that it was priced a lot lower than many other projectors in its class. I was impressed with the video quality and not to mention the ease of use. Its just plug-n-play. It comes with its own carrying case out of the box and is pretty sleek. Best thing I like is it has a hdmi input and I play the 720p videos straight off of Youtube and you can only appreciate the great piece of entertainment it gives.

Basic projector, good for the money

by Pace Ripley from Somerville, MA on 2010-07-21
We got the projector as backup for a meeting at a client. The projector boots up fast and has straightforward menus, as you would expect from an Epson. While it displays text very clearly, image and color reproduction in particular are an issue. Blue colored objects and shaped are presented as black and fine details in photos disappear. Tinkering with menus sadly failed to fix the situation. Still, for the money, it is more than enough for basic usage and will satisfy anyone in need to display video or share information in large format.

Big Theater / Small Price

by S. Storm from USA on 2010-06-07
I purchased this projector soley for watching dvd and vhs movies, I chose this model due to its great price and low price of replacement bulbs. I placed it & a vcr/dvd player in my bookcase hooked it to my bookshelf stereo for sound and have an instant movie theater (about 10 minutes total set up time). I have projected it against a white wall and now a tan wall, the image quality is excellent with clarity and vivid colors. I don't even feel the need to buy a screen.I also have used it for my nintendo wii and was just as happy, the kids of course loved it too. I am planning on moving to another state so instead of bringing my extremely plasma tv I'm going to purchase another one of these. They are very easy to carry.Overall I am extremely satisfied.

Great projector

by Muzikman from Washington, DC on 2010-04-03
This is my first projector (to be used mainly for movie viewing at home) and I'm very happy with it. I've had it for 3 days and all I can say is that it's more than enough for a "movie theater experience" for a small apartment. I'm currently using just the white wall in my apartment and I can say that you can do without a projector screen and be wowed with the color and resolution of this projector. The only thing I'm not very happy about is that the volume on this product is subpar (The HDMI connection can only be heard through the projector's speaker). However, volume output can be remedied by connecting your PC or Bluray / DVD unit to an external source (like a 7.1 home theater setup, etc). I have my audio output connected from PC to a nice Logitech PC speakers with subwoofer and the "theater experience" in my living room is more than enough to make me feel like I'm experiencing a genuine movie theater atmosphere (and I don't have to pay for inflated movie ticket, popcorn / candy prices!)UPDATE: (JUNE 12, 2010) I bought an Epson Duet 80" inch projector screen and the picture is much, much better now!

Good product

by C. Stanphill from on 2010-03-03
So far I have been very pleased with this projector. It is extremely easy to set up and "pair" with the computer. It is bright (although I have not used it in a very large room yet) and the colors are great. There are several modern inputs which give it great flexibility for your different types of presentations. I have been told it is much easier to use than the older types. Give this one a try.

AN EXCELLENT VIDEO PROJECTOR

by Edgar Paternina from Colombia. South America on 2010-08-16
I am really very proud of my new PowerLite Multimedia Projector, as its image is perfect; I use it in my video home theater, so I really enjoy seeing a good picture in my excellent 70INX70IN Manual Screen. This PowerLite projector has really fulfilled all my expectations.

Great lightweight projector.

by Darla R. - Washington DC from on 2010-07-01
Ordered this at the last minute for a workshop. Was hoping it would be user-friendly because our facilitators were not tech-savvy. Machine arrived ontime, is very lightweight compared to most digital projectors, and was VERY user friendly. There was no need to "program" the projector into the laptop it ran from in order to make the projected image look good. No adjustments required to view image on laptop either. Came with case which is sort of flimsy, but otherwise a great buy and I'm ordering a couple more.

Excellent Digital Projector

by David Stottlemyer from Kooskia, Idaho USA on 2010-06-28
After reading many reviews I selected the Epson PowerLite S7 digital projector... and I am very glad I did. I use it at home for viewing DVD's and for garden seminar presentations. Hooked it up to my Mac and it worked instantly. My only bad experience was with the cable that connects the projector with a computer. It is not the best quality and a pin bent and pushed in soon after I got it (right as I hooked it up for a gardening talk). Just one pin, but the thing wouldn't work without it. Some quick work finally got it up and running but as soon as possible, I purchased a better quality (and longer) cable and have not had a problem since. The picture is bright, colors good, and the instant shutoff is a nice feature. The bulb is rated at 4000 hours instead of the usual 3000 so that's a plus as well. All-in-all a very nice piece of equipment that I would recommend to anyone.

A good buy

by OBJuan from on 2010-04-25
Great price - powerful and bright enough for a presentation in a 150' x 150' room with 100 participants. Light. Easily fits in carry-on bag with laptop and cords. USB feature is fantastic and enables you to remotely control your laptop (don't ask me how). I had it out of the package and up and running in about 10 minutes.

Great device with only one con

by Christopher Hayes from on 2010-08-14
This is my first projector, so I didn't really know what to expect from a projector. I have seen company and school projectors so I knew what kind of image to expect. This thing is great. I use the HDMI port connected to my laptop, and I usually watch movies with this thing. Regular movies and DVDs look nice, and HD looks amazing, it's not true ultra-holy-cow 1080p HD, but it is HD nonetheless.Definitely worth the money. Screens across a medium sized room will easily do 150 inches diagonally.Color is clear, bright and strong. ECO mode's light brightness is great, on Normal mode you can leave the lights on and still have a good experience. The one con is blacks. Watching a scary movie with lots of blacks? Playing a game that's dark and gritty? Don't expect any real black but rather the wall as it would be normally, except slightly darker if it's a lit room. This problem is easily remedied by a grey wallpaper and/or a completely dark room, but sometimes that's not possible. This is a problem associated with all cheaper, LCD projectors and not this one projector, though, so don't be quick to label this as "EX71's flaw" but rather LCD's flaw.All-in-all I love this thing and will be using it for a long time.

Good Budget Projector

by Charles A. Robinson from on 2010-08-05
We use this in a variety of office settings and find it to be well worth the money. Throw distance, brightness, ease of connection, and options are all pretty good for how much it costs.

An excellent HT on a budget projector!

by Jeff Gilliam from Pequannock, N.J. on 2010-07-09
First, let me start by saying I am a DLP guy. Screen doors and less than stellar blacks are usually the knock on mid level LCD projectors. What possessed me to take a chance on the EX-71 when I saw it in the "open box/demo" section, I don't know. Needless to say at $629, this projector is very much worth it's price. Given that this is suppose to be a presentation projector makes me wonder how the settings can be so good for viewing sports and movies right out of the box. Tweaking the settings only helps the image quality, but I can't think there are many business projectors that are this plug and play for home theater. I also have to comment on how bright this unit is. I just got done watching "The Car"(anyone remember that "classic" from your early HBO days?) on HD cable with the sun beaming in and the picture wasn't close to being washed out.It was amazing how good the PQ was.Keep in mind that the image is 100" and I'm viewing it from about about 10 feet away. I should point out that I have been viewing in ECO mode as well, so you can preserve the lamp while still getting a great image. The shortcomings of this unit for me are the following. It is not a native 1080p projector so it is impossible to get the same image say as the higher priced Epson 8100. Also, an additional digital port would be great(HDMI or DVI) but it should at least have another component(red, green, blue) input, whether it be the three RCA ports or an additional VGA input. Lastly, the fan noise is more than passable but it could be just a hair quieter. All pros and cons considered this is a great entry level projector for HT at a price around $650 or less. If you just want to upgrade your "big screen" tv or are looking to replace your first projector for one a little brighter and with an HDMI port, than this unit is for you. Otherwise, cough up another $400-500 dollars and get one of the "budget 1080p units that are coming out now. It all comes down to your expectations.

Vivid color bright picture

by John from Lake Park, Ia on 2010-02-09
John at Lake Park,Ia Just bought an Epson Ex71 projector with an Epson Duet screen to show our friends pictures of our China trip. Super Bowl Sunday I used the projector and screen to watch the game. Used the HDMI port for a high definition picture. The picture was awesome, vivid, bright and true to life, just like one was at the game. The sound from the protector was good but not great. Highly recommend both the EX71 projector and Duet screen.

Inexpensive, works for certain purpose..

by H. Dinh from OKUSA on 2010-08-26
Out of the box, the projector feels cheap. Light weight and doesn't look like it will last a long time. However, I think it's an unfair comparison, as I am used to company's projectors that are high resolution and built like a tank that costs thousands more. Even the bulbs in those projectors that cost more than this entire unit!I got a lot of use for this projector. Yes, it is low resolution (640x480), but for a home-based business it works wonderfully. We can review the code or artwork and at times, playing a couple videos. I don't know how long it will last, but for now I am very happy with it. Remote works intermittently, so there some frustrations. All kinds of input connections and this is a real plus, you don't have to worry about what device to attach to it. Speaker is ok. This doesn't mean to be a high-end projector for home theater, but for simple use it is fine. I love it.

beautiful

by B. Melby from on 2010-08-22
I'm a soldier, deployed at the moment. I got this projector so that I had something to watch movies with on my wall. Can't see it too well with my light on but in the dark or little light it's bright. Some movies I have to change the preset to movie because it's too dark. But all in all it's handling great, we use projectors for professional reasons where I work and this little projector matches the performance of the $2,000 ones we use. The speakers are useless but you get this for the image and price. I use headphones and its gets me through the deployment on my down time.

Nice For The Price

by K. Nordhus from on 2010-08-12
I've been using this projector for several weeks now and have no complaints with it. Of course the picture quality and sound isn't as good as it would be with a more expensive version. But for work presentations or the occasional movie it works just fine.

Low priced but poor quality and functionality

by G. Alessia from Uniontown, Ohio, US on 2010-07-25
I use a projector on a daily basis at work, so I know quality and functionalty. I purchased for use at a local homeowners association - Quality was not bad for the money but the screen navigation was very very poor and I could not get it to connect with my laptop...and again, I use them daily at work and I know all about the Function F8 key, rebooting, etc - so spare me the lesson. Also had no case and came in a box just above newspaper, so it was miserable to transport....Save yourself the agony

For what i paid im very happy

this unit works great , the brightness isnt super high , but for the price and being able to have a huge screen on my wall is greeat!!

I bought this to use in my classroom and think it is great! The sound is clear and as loud as I need for all of my students to hear content being viewed. The price was very reasonable and I have not had any issues with how the equipment works. It's a great addition to the classroom. The images are clear, the remote is a nice feature and it's quite easy to use.

Epson 1716 Projector

by Stuart Schneider from Teaneck, NJ USA on 2010-06-21
It is very bright, so much so that it shows some of the flaws in my photographs. Luckily, the projectors brightness can be reduced, which also lengthens the life of the bulb. It is meant to be used very close to the screen. The lens is very wide angle. I guess that keeps the image bright, but I prefer a little less wide angle lens. I don't think that the lens is replaceable. Other than those small issues, it works well, is easy to use and is light and easy to carry around. Amazon's price was over $200 less than most other dealers.

Good Projector, so-so zoom

by Michael Anderson from New Jersey on 2010-05-16
I bought this projector for training. Nice size and easy to set up. The USB set-up does NOT work with my Apple so Mac users beware. The zoom capability could be better. You have to move the projector close to the screen as it does not zoom DOWN well.Otherwise, bright picture, clean edges and very easy to transport as it is compact is size.Arrived in five days from Amazon.

One of the easiest projectors to use

by Richie B. from Barbados on 2010-08-30

Good for home theater projector

by Yong S. Ahn from on 2010-06-21
I am using Epson EX30 for my home theater projector. I have $200 LG Home Theater (LHT854) with built-in DVD connected to this Epson projectors and they do great job for home theater system in my basement. They only cost $600 all together and I don't think you have to spend fortune to build your small home theater room.

Great for the price

by H. Serrano from New York City on 2009-11-04
I needed a good projector to use for professional development workshop presentations. This projector was very quick to set up and use. A true plug and play! The image is clear and it projects from a great distance (twenty feet) without loosing its quality.

Highest quality for lowest price

by Cynthia Brown from Mason, Ohio on 2009-09-15
I looked around for a while trying to decide what projector to get and how much to spend. For the price ([...])and for what I spent on it I couldn't be happier. The brightness is fine, but works best in a darker room. Two brightness settings, "Low" will extend the life of the lamp. Another main reason I got this projector, Epson is known for good lamp life 3000+ hours on low setting. It's very easy to set up on a white wall takes about 5 mins, buttons on the projector to quickly get a square image. It also has a small built in speaker which may be good for personal use, but not so much for large groups. Inputs are quick and easy, within the first day I used my PC, Xbox 360, cable box, ipod, and stereo with it.If one thing could be better I would say the resolution, It's fine but don't expect to read 8pt font from 10 feet away. Overall completely satisfied for the price.

Disappointed

by mrs16 from Minneapolis, MN on 2009-08-06
We thought this projector seemed a good value and had really great customer reviews so we felt confident about getting it. I don't think we took enough consideration in looking at the resolution. We were very disappointed when we tried it out. The resolution wasn't that great and the image wasn't as detailed as we wanted it. It was also hard to see in a lighted room. But the biggest problem was fuzzy spots that appeared on the projected image. We called Epson and the customer service rep after walking us through some tests and asking some questions determined that the lens was probably scratched or had dust inside it. The lens did look like it was scratched. Because we were disappointed in other things besides the scratches we returned this project and got another one with a higher resolution and more lumens for a higher price. The second projector was SO much clearer - much more detailed and brightness. In this case, I'd say that spending extra money was worth it.
