Improved version AE2000, value. Color and black levels have dramatically improved in 2000, especially red. Lighting seems to be better, but my old projector was 2000 hours, so that bit less fire. Nothing better than this, I think 4000 dollars to America, could not go wrong with Pacific Series - Ae.

Best Projector ever

I install hometheaters here in kuwait, i mean complete system from scratch, speakers, screen & projector, I've been doing this for the past 15 years, i tried several projectors, Barco,Eiki,Sony, but when i tried this panasonic, I was amazed by the picture quality, specially if you feed it with HDMI HD picture, colors and contrast are fantastic, specially if you want some light in the room and not total darkness, this is the one, also this PJ has lens shift, means, if you mount the picture higher than screen ( or want it to be hidden ), you can simply adjest the lens and sheft it down, and one of the thing i like most in this panasonic PJ is that they are quit, you can hardly hear the cooling fan ( which almost most PJ are loud ), I fixed panasonic 1000,2000,3000 and 4000, but comparing all , this one is the best, stop your search, get one now, Thanx

updated review- still loving it

got my first projector yesterday from visualapex. was waiting for price to fall for the past 4 months but couldn't wait any longer. it is huge -size & weight .set up was easy at coffee table level, not recommended if you have small kids as you cant stop them from looking into the lens & it does get hot. one issue (not so major)is no coaxial cable input. will update further after i see some Blu-ray & get a hd receiver for basement from cox. 
picture is awesome even for SD projected 12ft diagonally(16:9)on a wall. even with partial ambient light. money well spent. 

after a week: 
watched "time travelers wife" DVD - a very low lit movie . did a decent job under picture mode "Dynamic" 
watched 24 from fox website(dvr ran out of space). awesome!! great player fox!!

Built my 170" diagonal BOC screen 
got the Avatar Bluray still waiting for my lg bd570. not recommended to project DVD from this projector to anything larger than 120" diagonal . it gets grainy at 22'projection distance .if i had the projector closer it maybe a different story

finally my lg bd570 arrived . in the mean time I've built a shelf for my projector, all the connection through single hdmi output from my onkyo 6200 receiver . has 4 hdmi ,s-video, component, serial connection 

only regret is inability to connect the wii as i dont want to fish another 35ft component cable under the carpet. some day i will. 

one more thing: Note to Panasonic: the safety chain end (L shaped) tab that screws on to the bottom of the projector should ideally be screwed on to the back or sides . I place my projector on a shelf & if i attach the safety chain . the projector tilts on one side as the tab protrudes more than the feet. had to hammer it to flatten it. 

i really like this projector & would recommend it

Amazing entry-level projector!

I did an unbelievable amount of research on home theater projectors over the course of about a year beginning on a projector about half the price of this and slowly making my way to this model before deciding that this was the one. I've never bought a projector before so I didn't want to jump in and buy one for $6,000+ or anything, but I'm a movie geek so I still wanted the best that I could possibly get on a reasonable budget. I am overjoyed to report that this projector was beyond my wildest expectations. 

I own a Samsung Touch of Red LCD screen that is the envy of everyone who comes over and sees it, but this blows that out of the water (projected 100" onto a fixed 16:9 screen). Colors are bright and the image is crisp with great contrast. Although I did calibrate it and got the image to look slightly better, I found that it wasn't really too necessary as the out of the box Color 1 setting was tuned well enough. 

I will say this about it though, it's huge. Although it doesn't weigh a great deal, the physical size of this thing is gigantic. I also had some difficulty getting a universal projector mount to fit and hang right with it, but I guess that's not entirely its fault as I'm sure others more experienced had no troubles.

Sets a high standard for any price

This is an outstanding projector at any price. It has the most flexible controls and adjustments settings of any projector I've compared it to. The waveform monitor and split screen adjustment capability make this projector a breeze to adjust precisely, especially if you're a perfectionist. The appearance is functional in design and high quality in materials, a welcome relief from some of the competing projectors that appears to be toylike in design and appearance. The proof is in the quality of the images it produces, it has ruined me as far as enjoyment of the image quality in most movie theatres, which are usually inferior.

Fantastic projector

I love this projector. I actually upgraded from the Panasonic PT-AE3000u (also great). 

I have noticed that this projector is brighter, has a clearer picture, better colors, and better contrast and black levels than the PT-AE3000u. 

It really shines with Blu-ray, but all sources look good. 

Not much else to say, but for the money, you can't beat it.
