poor sound quality by P. Smith from on 2010-04-25 On a positive note--the TV Guardian portion of the DVD player works fine---The down side is that the DVD player has very poor sound quality. I have to turn it so high to hear the dialogue that it produces a lot of static. When I switch to my VHS player, the sound is fine, so I assume it's not my sound system.

Apparently, the list of movie studios who are not including Closed Caption text on their movies (which is what the TV Guardian feature operates with) is increasing. I only bought this unit because of the TV Guardian feature. Without being able to use it, there was no sense in keeping it. TV Guardian seems to be an awesome feature, but it seems to be going to the wayside. Too bad.
RCA DVD Works as described ... by JackO from on 2010-02-24 The item was as described. The seller sent it promptly upon payment. No complaint. Would buy from seller again, plan on getting another identical unit in near future.
RCA DRC286 DVD Player by Archie Glenn West from USA on 2010-02-17 Tray would not open. Had to disassemble and removed gob of wax blocking tray. Have had to reboot several times to get to work. Plays fine otherwise. No longer works.
This crazy thing plays Hybrid SACD's!! by EtherealCereal from Michigan on 2009-11-19 When my old DVD player started dying, this RCA unit was on sale at Meijer, and since I was looking for an inexpensive DVD player which was compact, this one immediately stood out (the fact that it could rip CD's was not anything to sneeze at, either). There haven't been any problems whatsoever with the unit, and after picking up a Hybrid SACD, imagine my surprise and delight that this inexpensive little DVD player played it! If you can get your hands on one of these ittle babies, you won't be disappointed!
